- Public Programs Assistant
Working in collaboration with other Visitor Services staff (supervised by the Programming & Communications Coordinator), the Public Programs Assistant will focus on two primary areas, with related tasks as detailed below. Please note that due to the nature of this position (re: COVID-19 requirements and general yearly projects), the list below indicates examples of projects/duties, which may be changed if needed.
PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PUBLIC COMMUNICATION:
• Deliver in-person or virtual educational programs for all ages, including grades K-12, university classes, and seniors.
• Participate in outreach educational events and programs (may be offsite).
• Conduct guided tours of the Museum of Health Care’s onsite galleries in a manner that engages and delights participants, while conveying the requisite information.
• Market in-Museum programs and guided tours within the framework of an existing marketing plan.
• Welcome Museum visitors and program/tour participants.
• Develop written and video content for the Museum’s existing social media series.2)
RESEARCH FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND ADULTS:
• Research and develop new activities and public programs to expand in-Museum, classroom or virtual programming and bring Canada’s healthcare story to life for visitors of all ages.
• Review and expand upon existing research material highlighting the local, national, and international history of medicine and health care.
• Assist in the development of customized program/tour options for specific groups.
• Evaluate and suggest improvements to public programs, research resources, and program marketing.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Excellent communication skills in written and oral English
-Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
-Familiarity with Microsoft Office
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Knowledge of French or other second language
-Knowledge and/or experience of Indigenous history
-General knowledge of health care history and/or social history of Canada
-Programming design experience for any age group
-Experience in and/or knowledge of the principles of heritage interpretation
-Experience in and/or knowledge of event planning and marketing
-Graphic design skills and familiarity online content creation
-Interest in a career in history, history of medicine, museology, education, heritage interpretation, tourism or other related discipline

2. Digital Content & Marketing Assistant
Working in collaboration with other Visitor Services staff (supervised by the Programming & Communications Coordinator), the Digital Content & Marketing Assistant will focus on creation and modification of digital assets at the Museum of Health Care. Through digital design, public engagement, and online content creation the Digital Content & Marketing Assistant will work to maintain and expand the Museum’s reach to its virtual audience.
This position includes several projects to be completed, including (but not limited to):
• Monitoring and scheduling social media posts on Museum social media platforms, including creating new content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok)
• Creating promotional materials, including short video clips, posters and brochures, to promote upcoming Museum programming
• Aid in the creation and delivery of the Museum’s Online education programs
• Researching and creating (as well as modifying existing) blog posts on the Museum’s Blog website
• Updating and creating new content for the Museum’s existing virtual gallery tourThrough their work at the Museum in this position, a student can expect to gain experience in the behind the scenes promotional aspects and technical knowledge of museum communications work, while developing a better understanding of non-profit and heritage-based workplaces. Students will be supplied appropriate training and given access to the platforms often used in the arts/culture sector.

-Experience in online data analysis relating to increasing viewership, visibility and ease of use
-Experience in web design and maintenance
-Technical knowledge of photography/filmmaking

-Interest in a career in history, history of medicine, museology, marketing, film/tv, content creation, promotion, statistics, tourism or other related disciplines

3. Collections Technician
The Collections Technician will participate in collections management activities that will improve the Museum’s non-catalogued and catalogued collections as well as the online collections database. This position will provide the candidate with a rewarding, hands-on employment experience in the cultural sector.
The candidates will be responsible for four main projects:
1) Cataloguing, photographing and preparing objects for storage for new donations.
2) Creating database records revisions for existing catalogue entries.
3) Completing research as it relates to the Museum of Health Care’s education programs, specifically integrating artifact examination into existing program plans.
4) Creating and editing high-resolution digital images of objects
5) Researching, drafting and publishing Blog articles on the Museum’s website, highlighting unique objects and stories in the history of healthcare.Throughout the course of their work, the candidate will be expected to maintain administrative records for Museum cataloguing, artifact records and conservation procedures. Students can expect to gain skills in digital management of museum collections, and will be given practical experience with using industry-standard programs and equipment.
